We used Airbnb for the first time. I was a little scared to because you just never know what the heck you are really getting for your stay, but our first experience using Airbnb was a great one. We stayed about 10 minutes out of Palm Springs, and the apartment we stayed in was pretty much amazing. I felt like Don Draper was going to walk out of the bedroom and greet me at the door (insert heart eyes emoji). It was a total time warp walking in, and the way you think about how Palm Springs in the 1950s-1960s mid-century feel is exactly what Alex and I got when we walked in.
The night we got there we relaxed with a couple bottles of wine and meat and cheese because you know, kid free weekend!!
Palm Springs anniversary weekend meant spending time together and just enjoying each other's company and indulging in as much delicious food and drinks possible.
We set out on Saturday with food on our mind. I looked up the "must go-to places in Palm Springs" beforehand so I knew exactly where we were going. We started our day at Birba which is an outdoor café/bar. It is right next to Cheeky's, but since Cheeky's is the go-to place to go for breakfast the wait was crazy long. We sat at Birba and tried to occupy our time as much as we could before we caved in and ordered a margherita pizza to share. I sipped on a ginger gimlet while Alex had a beer. Breakfast of champions!
Our name was finally called! Although we shared a pizza we still couldn't pass up eating an entree at Cheeky's. We sat outside under the cool mist, and the food was melt in your mouth amazingly delicious and the drinks were so strong you actually got your money's worth. The service and prices are on-point. I can see why people do not mind waiting for a table there.
After eating, what felt like a Thanksgiving dinner, we decided to walk around and see what beautiful Palm Springs as all about. We went to a thrift shop called Pop Shop and then to Rivals. We fell in love instantly with Rivals. The furniture there is amazing! I bit of nostalgia everywhere. It is definitely a shop to go to. I really wanted to go back before we left Palm Springs because I fell in love with a lamp, completely inexpensive, but we forget. Sad face :(
Isn't he just adorable!
We went on with our adventure to downtown Palm Springs where the cool misters were on full blast and the milkshakes were deliciously refreshing. We went to Great Shakes and the shakes were way better than great. Alex and I obviously shared since all the walking around we did still didn't help give us an appetite.
The menu is huge so it makes your decision way more difficult. The music was great and the AC was on full blast and I didn't want to leave. We shred a milkshake and by far one of the best milkshakes ever. And I might say that the donut on top was just as delicious as the shake. I wish we got more than one.
We were initially going to stay at the El Sagauro Hotel before we decided on Airbnb so since we didn't end up staying there but we went to check it out. We went to El Jefe for some chips and salsa and drinks. The atmosphere of the hotel and the bar is laid back and it is definitely a place I want to stay at when we go to Palm Springs again. The colors are so vibrant and the simple décor is just perfect. The pineapple margarita did not disappoint and there was a selection of beers on tap that we loved (not your usual lager beers if you know what I mean).
Oh my goodness by this point we needed some rest. We went back to our little humble abode, and we relaxed with some swimming, music and beers. We dozed off for a little while outside on the lawn chairs.
We finally had a little appetite, key word "little", to go have some BBQ for dinner. We got snazzied up, not even sure if that is a word, and hit the town.
We went to Smoke Tree BBQ Bar & Grill, and even though the food was good can I just brag about how delicious their Old Fashioned was. The best Old Fashioned I have ever had. I savored every drink I took. Aside from the ridiculously, delicious Old Fashioned the BBQ was good and the ambience and décor of the restaurant was great. It was a nice last supper.
CHEERS!
That was a wrap for the night. We drove around Palm Springs and walked the downtown area, but after all the exploring we did during the day and with the heat we were beat. We ended up going back to our place and watching American Horror Story in bed. Haha! I know, right?!
On our final morning of being in Palm Springs we ate at Workshop Kitchen. I read some raving reviews about this place and being the food lover that I am I absolutely had to try. I made sure to make reservations for breakfast, and we were the first ones in the door. Just the walk up to the door was beautiful so I couldn't wait to get inside. The inside of the restaurant is unbelievably beautiful. It's very simple and modern and my cup of tea. I took what felt like a million pictures. Next time we go to Palm Springs I am definitely going to wear my Sunday's best and have dinner there.
Alex, of course, had the chicken and waffles and I tried the breakfast lobster burrito with some morning coffee. And of course the food was amazing! 5 stars all the way! OFF TOPIC: But sometimes I really, really wish I was a food critic.
Whats not to love about Palm Springs? I don't know if it was the kid-free weekend, just being with one another or the endless amounts of delicious food and drinks, but we had such an amazing time.
Maybe it was the dinosaurs we visited in Cabazon on the way home.
Just kidding! But they were pretty cute to look at. Until we meet again Palm Springs! Maybe next time I'll get to see Don Draper there!!
