I was extremely excited this weekend, not only to BBQ with the crew on Sunday in 76 degree Bakersfield weather. but because I was able to catch up with some old, old friends and eat basque food. Now, first off about these old, old friends. Their names are Beth and Daniel and we have been friends since elementary school. The three of us have held onto this friendship we have with each other for so long and it's two friendships that I cherish very much. I see Beth a little more often than Daniel but when we get together it's just like old times and we pick up right where we left off. Never a dull or awkward moment with them. It's so fun that my husband likes to join us just for the entertainment. Second of all, we wined and dined at Woolgrowers which is a delicious basque food restaurant. Now, if you never had it shame on you and go get some. Now! We have some of the best basque food restaurants here in sunny Bakersfield and Woolgrowers is a must to eat at.

Feast part two
Okay, I know what you are thinking, "this looks all right, I guess." Well, these pictures do not do all this delicious food justice.
And here comes the close up shot...
Yes, I am a sucker for pickled tongue. Beth and I usually are the only ones that eat it. It's pickled, which I love, and it tastes like roast beef, which I also love. No joke! Don't knock it 'til you try it. And that red red wine at Woolgrowers is the best and does it's purpose with even one glass :)
As far back as I can remember Beth always got bleu cheese with a piece of bread for dessert while everyone else got ice cream. Even when we went for her birthday dinners at Woolgrowers there would be no cake. Instead there would be a slab of bleu cheese on a piece of bread with a candle in it coming out on a plate while we sang Happy Birthday to her.
What's one more glass of red wine with my spumoni ice cream?
We had to update out picture. I need to get out the old ones and compare them with this most recent one. 20+ years of friendship.
After I slept off all that pickled tongue and red wine Alex was very adamant to have a BBQ at the park. He didn't know which park because he changed it three different times but somehow it all came together in the end. Having a BBQ was the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends and kids in the middle of February with beautiful weather. Did I mention it was 76 degrees? We were missing a couple people but for a spur of the moment BBQ the food came out great and everyone had a good time.
Layla took her scooter and it was clearly the highlight of the whole BBQ. I'm glad she likes to share because the Goings' (who are Ashley and Scott, our friends who obviously think age is just a number) were all about it. Little pink scooters are for everyone to ride on.
The only kids of our circle of friends. Layla, Joaquin, and Olive. They enjoy each other's company. They like it just the 3 of them.
We ended the BBQ with a little Frisbee. Well, not we because I was just a spectator that almost got hit a couple of times.
It was officially over after Priscilla and Girl Alex decided to do handstands. They went out with a bang. My friends are young at heart and that is obvious in these photos.
That was a lovely day at the park :)
ReplyDeletesweet pictures Kandi, but I am one that's not for basque food either. :( Someday perhaps.
