Valentine's Days

Every year Valentine's Day comes around and Alex and I never really celebrate it. We have been together going on 9 years and it always consists of a heart shaped pizza, RC Cola and beer, and maybe a gift exchaged if we felt like getting a gift for each other that year. We never made Valentine's Day out to be a spectacular holiday. It's just another day, right? Wrong! Well at least once you have kids it's not just another day. This year we had Valentine's Days. That's right, days. Plural. We started by celebrating it the day before at Layla's preschool. She doesn't have preschool on Fridays so Thursday was the party. Layla passed out her Valentines which then led to a dance party, sugar, face painting, more sugar and ended with a picture with Mickey Mouse all before 12 pm.

Layla was not fooled. She knew that this was not the OG Mickey Mouse. You can clearly see the excitement on her face.

Now, I am not going to lie. Clearly the best part of having a little one in school when it is Valentine's Day is all the candy that they get from their friends. I have no shame. I like to peek through her box and see all the goodies she has received. The best part on top of that is she loves the fruity candy and I love me some chocolate AND she has a peanut allergy so I just HAVE to eat any of those candies as well. She still comes out on top with all the toys and knick knacks that she also gets.

Layla was pretty sugared out by the time she left school. She started going through that loopy stage and then all of a sudden started to crash. That sugar high was short lived.

But one more picture of this cute cupcake face...

We woke up Valentine's Day not expecting anything and Alex left us a little something on the kitchen counter. Blogging For Creatives (since I started my blog) along with some sugar for me and Pete the Cat for Layla (those books are her favorite at the moment). All useful gifts, which I love. It was nice waking up to a surprise.

This is exactly how Layla wakes up, necklaces and bracelets. All blinged out. A little diva if you ask me.

I decided to make some Valentine pancakes with Layla. A little sugar and fun in the morning to get this holiday started. We had so much fun together. Olive joined us and I gave her a little treat as well. I smashed up a banana and let her try it out for the first time. Olive is only four and half months and I have yet to give her cereal or solids so this was a nice little breakfast for her.

I received great reviews on the pancakes. "MMMMM MMMM! Mama, these are delicious!!" Layla. Toddler approved :)

Olive was really into her breakfast as well. I was the apple of their eye that morning! I mean, there is no competition at all but I do like to rub it in Alex's face sometimes. All in good fun.

That afternoon consisted of lounging around the house. It was a beautiful 76 degrees here so we opened the windows and waited for Alex to get home. The girls played and Matador sunbathed.

We ended up keeping the tradition alive and took the girls to get a heart shaped pizza for dinner. We weren't going to try and go out to a nice restaurant. That would be insane of us with two girls but kuddos to people that did. We got to the pizza place down the street from our house, Rustys, which has ridiculous, delicious pizza and the wait was an hour. So to help pass the time go by we got a pitcher of beer and took some pictures to mark our Valentine's date.

Of course Layla's lamby joined in on the fun.

Right on time. The pizza finally made it to the table an hour later.

And then we came home to a candy massacre. Matador, out beloved beagle, got into Layla's candy stash that was left on our coffee table. I was more upset that he got into the only chocolates left, the Snickers Bar and M&Ms. He didn't actually eat them but just marked them with some teeth marks. Real cool Matador.

Our Valentine's Days were nothing but awesome. I'm glad we celebrated two days of love, not just one.
